It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George Richard Barker, on January 14,

2005, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. George was predeceased by his first wife, Mary and brothers, Bill and Tom Barker.

George will be forever missed by his wife, Audrey; daughter Leah Barker, Vancouver, B.C.; stepdaughters, Judy McQuillan (Bob), Courtenay, B.C.; Mary Kerr (Bill), Parksville, B.C.; Sherry Shaw (Harvey), Lethbridge, Alberta; 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

George was born on April 2, 1920 at The Pas, Manitoba. In 1937 at the age of 17 years he moved to Flin Flon, Manitoba to support his parents. He joined the RCAF in 1941 and served in the Second World War. After the war George worked for Hudson Bay Mining & Smelting Company in Flin Flon, Manitoba. He moved to Winnipeg and worked in Sales for Mid West Diesel until his retirement at the age of 66 years.

On numerous occasions George and his wife, Mary visited Qualicum Beach. After her death, George relocated here to Qualicum Beach and met Audrey in 1992. They were married in Winnipeg June 21, 1993.

George was an avid golfer and a member of the Qualicum Beach Memorial Golf Course. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 32 years and The Air Force Association of Canada 888 Wing Comox.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, January 19, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at The Qualicum Beach Legion, Reverend Phil Spencer officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Red Cross, 1941 Wilfert, Nanaimo, B.C.
