April 20, 1947 – January 19, 2019
Georgia Elizabeth Hunt (nee Thompson) passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon at Comox Valley North Island Hospital after a courageous year long battle with cancer. Her health began to wane about six years ago when she suffered her first stroke and another late in 2017.
Georgia was born in Regina, Saskatchewan and grew up in the Prairie provinces, graduating from high school in Calgary. During these young life years she had many camping trips to the Banff & Jasper areas where she enjoyed “the great outdoor adventures”.
She worked many years in office jobs, until while living in Victoria decided on a change and took the long term care aid course, then working many years at the Oak Bay Kiwanas Pavilion.
On August 17, 1990 she married her second husband, Ken Hunt. They continued to live in Victoria, until 2002 when they moved to retire in Courtenay. She was predeceased by Ken in December, 2009.
Georgia had a love for animals, a devout love for cats and dogs. Stray cats had a way of finding their way to her door, where they would receive her tender care. Often being adopted into her care with her own. She liked to do a variety of crafting projects, making many gifts for friends, for various occasions, especially as Christmas gifts. In these healthy years, her artistic abilities carried out into her yard projects of her flower garden plots & pots. Many dinner evenings were spent back and forth with neighbor friends, followed by games of “Mexican Train Dominoes.”
Sincere gratitude to the unit 3B nurses for the compassionate care in keeping her comfortable in her last week, to Dr. Rachel McKenzie, and to those in the Cancer Unit, especially Keir Hamilton, for her year of care.
Georgia will be dearly missed by her few family members of nieces and nephews, and close long time friends.
There will be no formal service at her request.
Donations may be made to Y.A.N.A or the charity of your choice.
Rest in Peace,
