POLICHEK
Gordon John Steven
April 21 1950 – January 26, 2010
Born in Salmon Arm, B.C.
During the last 16 years Gordon has made his home in Dawson City, Yukon.
Gordon was the 1st born son of Nick and Gwendolyn Polichek and was raised in Courtenay.
In his younger years Gordon achieved Grade A scholastics
and graduated from Vanier High School. He was very active
in sports achieving life guard certification, competitive high diving, loved the school basketball team where he played a starter guard, Comox Valley Jr. tennis champion and many track and field awards.
Music was always a passion with Gordon. At a young
age Gordon was playing many instruments and performing
at local venues. Instruments Gord mastered include: guitar,
bass guitar, piano, clarinet, saxophone, and trumpet. The
early bands include the legendary Maple Rock band based
in Courtenay. Time moved on and Gordon joined and
became the band leader with the show band Stratusfaction.
Stratusfaction was an eighteen-piece band and vocal group
from Calgary, who formed the centrepiece for a musical
variety series of six half-hour shows produced by CBC in
Winnipeg. While in Calgary Gordon met his future wife
Rebecca and they were blessed with their daughter Jennifer.
As many do, Gordon returned to the Comox Valley. He
continued to play music with many of the local bands around Vancouver Island.
In the 90’s Gordon was introduced to Dawson City, Yukon.
Dawson City welcomed Gord with open arms. Dawson (aka
Dodge City) became home for Gord. He spent the rest of his years performing music in and around Dawson City. Gord performed in the house band at the Westminster Hotel. The band was called The Pointer Brothers. They achieved great success releasing many original songs achieving #1 status in the North and many European countries.
Gordon is survived by his mother Gwen of Courtenay, his
daughter Jennifer living in California, brother Barry resides
in Courtenay, his nephew Clay, and 2 nieces Nicole and
Dallas-Inez.
Gordon recently said he was so lucky to still be able
to play music. All who heard Gordon play knew he was
a incredible talent. Thank you Gordon for sharing your
musical talent.
A celebration of life for Gordon will take place on Sunday
March 7, 2010 at 2 PM at the Courtenay upstairs Legion
Hall.
