H. Oliver "Ollie" Simpson, 56 passed away suddenly on August 12, 2019.
He is predeceased by his parents Joe and Renate Simpson. Oliver is survived by his children Miranda (Rowan) and Duncan, Sisters Wanda and Nadine, brother Gregory Uncle Eberhardt
and Aunt Crystal, Beverly, Cheryl (Neil), Victoria, Leanne (Shane), Shelby, Kristi, Richard, Sierra, Lisa, Tarin, Real Joyce, Jim (Janette), Jamie, Jessie, Bill, Taylor, Adonica, Brayden Norma (Mark), Barbara [Marilyn] (Keith), Michael. Michayla (Leanne), Linden, Kinsley, Stephen, Christine, Anaia.
Oliver was born on September 19, 1962 in Victoria, BC. In 1965, his family relocated to Comox, BC where they ran Glacier View dairy farm.
Oliver was a hard worker from a young age; he learned how to work on the farm from the age of 7. He helped on the farm on weekends and after school whenever needed and loved the farm animals.
During high school, he found a passion for cars and mechanics that lasted throughout his lifetime. There wasn't much Ollie couldn't fix when it came to cars, having owned a '65 Nova he did as a project car. He also loved going fishing in Bamfield with the boys and boating on Comox Lake.
It was at Comox Lake where he learned how to water ski and hang on tight in "the whip". Everyone called it the 45-gallon roll when he fell over because he rolled across the water for the longest time!
Oliver graduated from Highland Secondary School in 1980 and started working at a gas station doing minor repairs and pumping gas from 1980-1981.
In 1982, he began working on the green chain at Field Sawmill and soon moved into a forklift operator position. Oliver was later promoted to shift supervisor and left the company shortly before it closed.
In 1995 his daughter Miranda was born, and in 1997 his son, Duncan. He loved his children deeply and would do anything for them. He taught Duncan all about cars and once told Miranda that "if he taught her anything, she'd better remember: "lefty loosy righty tighty". In 2005, Oliver relocated to Abbotsford where he worked on a dairy farm until 2012 when he suffered from a health complication and moved back to Courtenay.
There will be a ceremony at the Courtenay Civic Cemetery on Sunday, October 6th at 2 pm.
