After 59 incredible years of life, Heather Perich (nee Fair) passed away (from cancer) peacefully at home, surrounded by her family.
Heather grew up in Ladysmith, BC as the sixth of seven children. She spent those years in a happy, chaotic family, making lifelong friends and enjoying many outdoor adventures.
After completing high school, Heather attended UBC in Vancouver and earned her teaching degree in Special Education. It was a career chosen entirely at random (eyes closed, running her finger up and down a page), but one that suited her perfectly.
While at UBC, Heather spent the summers working as a lifeguard and at a diabetic camp, where she met her husband, Allan. They were married in 1987 and went on to have a daughter, Meredith and a son, Jacob. For Heather, her family came first, and she devoted herself to providing them a life rich in experiences.
Heather and Allan moved to the Comox Valley in 1991 and spent the next 30 years building fantastic memories and going on adventures. Heather leaves behind a huge community of people who loved her; colleagues and students at the schools where she taught, many longtime friends, and a close-knit family.
Heather was known for her adventurous spirit, and 'go-getter' attitude. She never let 'a little' (torrential) rain stop her from enjoying the outdoors. On hikes with Heather, you kept up or were left behind.
Heather loved to socialize and was often the life of the party. Her quick wit would have a room full of people laughing in no time. She had an affinity for practical jokes. She once broke into the home of someone she knew just to rearrange the furniture and balanced many water buckets on top of doorways in her younger years.
Through all her spunk, Heather was also kind. She loved her family and friends fiercely. If you were in need, you could count on her to be in your corner. She was never afraid to stand up for what she felt was right.
Heather leaves behind her husband of 34 years, Allan, daughter Meredith (Rikki), son Jacob, granddaughter Nova, and a large immediate and extended family.
