Addie passed away on Thursday, May 31, 2007, quietly at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Comox, BC, at the age of 93. She was predeceased by her husband Ernest Hardy, son Kenneth, granddaughter Colleen and grandson Dale. She leaves to mourn: her children Georgie McCuaig (Dunc), their two children and three grandchildren; Constance Farrell, an d her two children, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; Ernest Hardy (Alice), their four children, eleven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; Stewart Hardy (Mary), his two children, four grandchildren and Ann Marie Tomlinson, her three children and three grandchildren.

Addie was born in Duncan, BC and was raised at the Kuper Island Residential School, she married Ernest Hardy, January 30, 1935. After her marriage she became a member of the Comox Indian Band, to date she was the oldest elder in our community.

Addie worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital for twenty-five years until retirement and she is lovingly remembered as a caregiver, who was kind, gentle, generous and she had a great sense of humour. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and attending church. She was blessed with a large family and many, many friends. Addie was known to all as “Grandma”.

We would like to especially thank, her grandson, David and granddaughter Cherie for their continual efforts to keep her home as long as possible. Thanks to Bernice, Melody, Renee of the KDC. Thanks to Glacier View nurses and staff. Thanks to Dr. Anderson, nurses and staff on the third floor of St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Addie will be sadly missed by all and she was the matriarch of the Hardy family.

Evening prayers were held on Monday, June 4th at 7:00 pm at Piercy’s Funeral Home with a funeral service on Tuesday, June 5th at 11:00 am with Father Paul Murphy at Christ The King Catholic Church. A tea and celebration of her life will be held at the Comox Indian Band Hall.
