Josephine was born in Edmonton, Alberta and eventually settling in St. Albert, Alberta.

Jo moved from St. Albert, to the Comox Valley 11 years ago to be closer to her daughter. She is survived by her children Dan (Jan) and Colleen; grandchildren Tamera and Cheyanne; sister Susan Lazarenko, sister in law Helen Lazarenko and nieces Deb (Mark) Brostrom, Barb Lazarenko and Kayla Lazarenko. Predeceased by her brother, Joseph (Helen) Lazarenko.

Without knowing anyone in the Valley, Jo joined the Evergreen Club the first year of moving to B.C. She would volunteer for the Flu Clinic, sell raffle tickets and help out in other areas of the club where her services were needed. In March of 2015 she became “Volunteer of the month” at the Evergreen Seniors Club. A big part of her social life was playing Whist twice a week and the occasional visit to the casino.

Her friends meant the world to her. Her best friend, Maureen, as well as close friends Gail, Wendy and Malcolm, Jack and Shirley, and Wyn made her life complete. Her wonderful neighbors Colleen and Murray were always there for her for whatever she needed. She also had so many others great friends that made a huge difference in her life. Jo loved living on Vancouver Island and appreciated everything it had to offer.

Strolling on the pier at the marina, going for a walk at Comox Spit or just sitting on a bench watching the sunset at Point Holmes were some of her favourite pastimes.

A very special thanks to the wonderful nurses at Hospice at the Views. You allowed my mother the gift of dignity and peace in her last days and for that I am so grateful. You are Angels. Jo will be laid to rest at a later date in Edmonton, AB. Please join us in remembering Jo by visiting our memorial at www.piercysmtwashingtonfuneral.com.
