It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of Joyce Clapham. After a long and brave ght with cancer Joyce passed away peacefully in the morning of August 18th at Campbell River hospital. Joyce fought a courageous battle with this dreadful disease after her diagnosis in 2006 and most particularly over the last 3 years. She was 66 years young at her passing and loved life. Joyce was born in Saskatchewan on October 22, 1950, but spent most of her life in Winnipeg, Manitoba, West Fargo, North Dakota and the last 5 years in Courtenay, BC. She loved life, people and her “precious animals”. Her working career was spent in the service industry where she managed food and beverage establishments. Her life was dedicated to the care of “precious animals”. She donated a great deal of her time to animals in the Fargo zoo and at the SPCA and Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. Her poodles were always a big part of her life. Joyce was also very active in volunteering her time to St. Joseph’s hospital, Cancer Care and L’Arche. Joyce lived in a loving marriage with her husband Bruce for 33 years and he will truly miss the good times they shared. Joyce loved and cherished her two step sons and their wives, Kyle(Nina) of Surrey, and Brad (Lisa) and granddaughter Olivia of Dallas, Texas. Joyce leaves in passing her beloved father Steve Kachur , 97 years old, and her brother Jim, both of Winnipeg, nephew Shane Kachur of Burlington, Ontario and niece Kim of Vancouver, BC. Joyce was predeceased by her mother Mary Kachur (Prokop). Sister in law Lorraine (best friend extraordinaire) is left with a broken heart….these two shared a special and everlasting love and devotion to each other. Joyce’s poodle Lacey Jane will likely mourn forever. Joyce’s personality was always upbeat, positive and infectious. Everyone that met her never forgot the contact. She had the ability to change the atmosphere in a room or the character of an event just by her association. Many, many will miss her. With extreme gratitude and appreciation to Doctors Richard Reid, Truong and J.P. McGhie of Victoria, and Doctors Potter- Cogan and T. Austin of Comox, and the sta s of the Cancers Centers in Victoria and at St Joseph’s who provided much guidance, support and treatment to allow Joyce comfort and a positive attitude for her journey these past three years. She thought you all were very special, loved you all and was thankful for your kindness, compassion and service. Life was taken from this beautiful person far too soon. May she rest in peace after her long ght. We all love you, and know we now have a very special angel watching over us. There will be a Celebration of Joyce’s Life at Comox Valley Funeral Home, 1101 Ryan Road, Courtenay, BC at 11:00AM Thursday August 31, 2017 and another Celebration in Winnipeg at a time and place to be announced at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined but for those that wish to donate in her name please do so to your favorite SPCA or the Canadian Cancer Society. Comox Valley Funeral Home 250-334-0707
