February 15, 1925 - March 9, 2022
Louis died on March 9, 2022 at the North Island Hospital Comox Valley. He was born on February 15, 1925 in the village of Bogdanje, Trstenik Municipality in the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, as the second of four sons of father, Vitomir, and mother, Kosana.
He finished primary school in the village of Bogdanje and began secondary school in Trstenik. The Second World War prevented his further education. After the occupation of his homeland in 1941, Louis mobilized into the ranks of the Yugoslav Royal Army. He received the rank of Lieutenant for loyalty to the King and the Homeland. After the unification of the Anti-Fascist Forces in 1944, Louis continued his war journey as a fighter in the National Liberation Army and the Partisan Detachments of Yugoslavia until the final victory over Facism in 1945. After the war, he emigrated and spent time in camps for displaced persons in Italy, Austria, Germany and England from 1945 to 1950. In 1950, Louis moved to Canada where he applied for citizenship.
He constantly and proudly pointed out that he was born a Yugoslav and become the adopted son of Canada. In Calgary, Louis got a job in a supermarket as a regular worker to retire as a District Manager of Safeway. He married his beloved wife, Carol, in 1965 and lived with her in harmony and love for 53 years until her death in 2018. As a good son and brother, Louis always helped his family in Serbia which he visited every year while his health allowed.
After the death of his parents, he continued to help his brothers and after their deaths, he selflessly helped his many nieces and nephews. He helped the infirm, supported the Canadian Red Cross and made donations to the SPCA, the Food Bank and to the Alzheimer's Disease Research. He also supported the work of the school in his native village of Bogdanje. Towards the end of his life, he decided to financially help with the renovations of the Church of St. George in Bogdanje,
Louis believed that education and faith in the good in people are what will make the world a better place.
