Loreene Mae Hunter
It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our Mother
Loreene Mae Hunter, on June 22nd, 2016 in Comox, B.C.
Born Loreene Mae Wadlandin Port Coquttlam, BC on October 3rd, 1925,
She came to Courtenay in 1938 with her parents Lewis and Beulah Wadland
( deceased) and her brothers George (deceased) and Ted. She graduated
from the only High School in Courtenay at the time. As a young girl she
served at Woodland's Rexall Drugstore for a number of years then became a
dedicated homemaker when she was married to Charles Scott Hunter in the
historic little church on Mission Hill in 1948.
Her beloved family includes her daughters Susan Hughes of Courtenay and
Cathie Hunter of Gibsons. Susan's predeceased husband Larry Hughes and
children Christy and Leon; his wife Shannon and their children Hunter and
Harper. Included are Cathie's son Michael and her partner Kyle.
ln her years in the Comox Valley her personal accomplishments were many,
with volunteer dedication to community activities. V'hen her children were
growing up she did volunteer work in the early days of the Courtenay
Recreation Association, particularly with Island swim meets as well with the
church youth group CGIT. She was an active member of the First Atea B
committee. She was a long time member of the Board of Directors of the
Home Support Society and travelled to Vancouver as a negotiator with the
unions. She had a successful career in the real estate industry for some 20
plus years and was well respected by her associates and clients for her
professionalism and fair dealing.
In social activities she was an early member of the Women's Soroptimist
Club, the theatre Skattered Skits, the Sunnydale Golf Club and the Silver
Bells Curling Group.
Loreene loved the outdoors and nature with many hiking trips on Forbidden
Plateau to Moat Lake and the mountains when the area was still wilderness.
She kept active in cross country skiing until recent years. She had her
license in “Ham Radio”.
Loreene enjoyed dancing with her husband and they
were quite proficient at ballroom dancing. Upon retirement she enjoyed the
travels to Mexico, Arizona including trips to Hawaii and touring Scotland
with her husband Scotty.
Loreene was an avid Bridge player, devoted to her computer desk, caring for
her family and dogs and cats. She had fine talents in her flower garden and
kitchen, enjoying to host many dinners for family and friends.
She will be remembered for her graciousness, wholehearted zest and joy of
life, sense of humour, being on point, on time and her outgoing love for all
of her family. She will also be remembered with affection by her host of
friends and co-workers for her many active years in her beloved Comox
Valley, all in all a life well lived.
After a beautiful 68 year marriage and less than three weeks of her husband
Scotty's passing, our Mother crossed over to join the love of her life on their
new journey, and with that the ''love story” continues.
In lieu of flowers the family wishes that donations be made to the charity of
your choice. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
