In Loving Memory ~

With great sadness, we announce that Lorraine left us quietly in her home in Courtenay. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Lorraine was a compassionate and kind woman born in Sydney, Australia during the Second World War. She touched many lives positively during her life's journey.

Lorraine grew up in Australia with dreams of seeing the world. Upon completing her nursing training, she embarked upon a voyage over the sea to Vancouver, Canada. Here she met the love of her life, Ted Dever. Soon after they were married in both Canada and Australia a week apart.

They remained then and forever dedicated to each other along with their sons Michael and Jeffrey. The happy couple created a base on Pender Island for their growing family where they successfully owned and operated the Gold Star Cash & Carry grocery store. The peaceful island setting made for a wonderful place to raise a family in her adopted land.

As the children got older, the family moved to Vancouver Island for a greater opportunity for all. Living in the Western Communities, Lorraine was dedicated to her family as well became a valued member of her community involving herself in Square Dancing and gardening among other hobbies. She beautified everywhere she went with her favourite being the rhododendrons and their vibrant flowers.

Lorraine was a wonderful role model for her children, with a foundation of love and family grounded in a strong sense of community.

After her boys moved out to start their own lives, she and her husband moved to Sooke where they established the most impressive veggie garden for miles around. One constant of her life in Canada was her dearly beloved husband, Ted. They were never far from each other's side and were often seen walking hand in hand wherever they went.

Later in life, Lorraine and Ted made their way to Courtenay to be close to friends Larry and Carroll Church. Ted's subsequent passing was incredibly difficult for Lorraine, but she was able to make a life for herself and again became a valuable member of her new community. She was involved in volunteering at the local hospital, choir, ukulele classes, movie nights at the Evergreen centre as well as her latest love, chair yoga.

Lorraine was predeceased by her parents, Kenneth and Ruby, her siblings James, Gordon, Kenneth and Margaret.

Her legacy is carried on by her loving sons Michael and Jeffrey along with their families.

Lorraine was a kind, honest, compassionate person who loved life and was always grateful for everything she had. She will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to meet her, but will now be tightly holding the love of her life's hand in eternal peace.

Please join family and friends for a Memorial service for Lorraine on Friday, November 17th at 1pm at Piercy's Mt Washington Funeral Home at 440 England Ave, Courtenay. A reception will be held afterwards at her nearby home.
