WEINBERG, Marie Irene

April 25, 1909 - April 19, 2007

After having lived a long and wonderful life, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Marie Irene Weinberg passed away peacefully in her sleep six days short of her 98th birthday at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Comox, surrounded by her loving family. Marie was born to Italian parents with big brother Joseph Canonica in Pennsylvania in 1909. When she was three the family moved to the west coast of BC and Marie remained there living with her father and aunts until age 19. At this time a handsome Finnish fisherman, and later BC Coast Pilot, Captain Jack Leonard Weinberg took her as his wife; they were married for 61 years, had one child Bobbie, and resided in Vancouver and Victoria enjoying their many friends, family life, and traveling into their retirement years. Marie became widowed in 1990 and eventually moved from Victoria to live in Mill Bay with her son Robert Weinberg and family, then finally to Comox to live with her granddaughter, Jill Nelson and family. Marie was a renowned artist painting beautiful oils and watercolours which many family and friends enjoy in their homes today. She had a amazing relationship with food, cooking and enjoying many traditional Italian dishes. Besides her family, Marie’s biggest passion was for her pets; little white dogs; most recently “Snickers”. He misses her desperately. Marie is survived by her son Robert Leonard Weinberg (Sue) of Cowichan Bay, Gail Tamburri of Victoria, grandchildren Jill Marie Nelson (Dennis) of Comox, Lisa Hendrickson (the late Mark Henderickson) of Comox, Scott Weinberg (Laura) of Olathe, Kansas, Amy Weinberg, of Cowichan Bay, Brenda Costanzo, of Victoria, great grandchildren: Cory and Terry Nelson, Reece Lucas, Matthew Lyon, Bonnie, Solveig, Gemma, Jack, and David Weinberg, and nieces and nephews from California, Vincent Perry, David Booth, Ralph and Kay Perry, Elizabeth and Jack Reynolds.
