WILLIAMS, Marleen Alice

It is with great sadness that the family of Marleen Williams announce that she has passed away peacefully on August 17, 2012 following a courageous battle with cancer.

The daughter of Hugh (Plug) and Gladys Miller, Marleen was born in Cumberland, BC on October 17, 1944. Marleen is survived by her loving daughter Shelley (Charles), her husband Dave Williams, his son Gary (Dena), daughter Deborah and step grandchildren Stephanie and Cameron. Marleen is also survived by her siblings Tom (Marie), Dennis (Beth), Glenda (Scott) and Kevin (Kathy) and many nieces and nephews, all who will miss her love and support.

Marleen will be missed by her many friends especially her long time friend Dorothy (“Dodie”) and Marg, her many co-workers and her Nova Scotia family.

Marleen loved that she was a Cumberland girl (nicknamed “Dusty”) and proudly called Cumberland her “home”. She was part of the last graduating class of Cumberland High – “Silence is Golden but let’s talk anyways.”

Marleen’s positive and sunny nature led to a career dealing with people and volunteering with children. Working at Corfield Motors, Scotiabank and Comox Valley Credit Union she took the extra time to chat while doing a professional

job.

Marleen enjoyed gardening, traveling, shopping, spending time with her friends and family and relaxing at the Horne Lake cabin.

The family would like to thank Marleen’s wonderful doctor, Janis McLaughlin and the palliative care nurses at St. Joseph’s Hospital for their compassion and professional care to Marleen.

A celebration of Marleen’s life will be held on Saturday, September 08, 2012 at the Cumberland Cultural Centre (lower floor, Senior’s Centre) 2674 Dunsmuir Avenue, Cumberland, BC starting at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests with thanks that donations be made to the Comox Valley Hospice Society or St. Joseph’s Hospital Cancer Care Centre, 2137 Comox Avenue, Comox, BC V9M 1P2.
