ALLEN, Marlene Yvonne

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Marlene Yvonne Allen on Friday, March 26, 2010 at her home after a long and hard fought battle with lung cancer in her 77th year.

Marlene is survived and will really be missed by her son: Jim; daughter in-law: Brenda Garvey; daughters: Karen (Dale) Chamberlain and Kim (Michael Pineau) Veitch; granddaughters: Chelsea Allen, Krista Chamberlain, Kari-Lyn (Matthew Parent) Chamberlain, Kelli Chamberlain and grandson: Mitchell Veitch; great granddaughter: Madison Riley Parent; sister: Beverley Demers, brother-in-laws: Butch Allen, Larry Allen; sister-in-law: Betty Anne (Fred) May and many nieces and nephews and their families.

Marlene was predeceased by her loving husband of 57 years, Robert James (Bob) Allen; her father John (Jean) Haise; her mother Irene (Bill) Lukey; her brothers Keith Haise and Jackey Lukey; her father and mother-in-law Harold and Dorothy Allen; brother-in-laws Dick Allen, Ted Allen and Pat Allen.

Marlene worked in retail throughout her married life and retired from Zellers when Bob retired so that they could enjoy their many hunting, fishing and camping trips together. Marlene had a love for life, she always had a smile on her face and loved to make people feel good. She was very optimistic and always saw the good in everyone. She was very artistic and has left behind many paintings and needle points for her family to enjoy and treasure in her memory. Her true joy was spending time with her family, her dearest friend Eleanor and she was the Vancouver Canucks greatest fan!!! She loved all her many caring neighbours in Courtenay, B.C.: Eleanor and Nick Stolarchuk, Georgia and Doug McMillan, Heather and Dave Magdanz, Ted and Barb Simpkins, Gary Folkart, Len and Ivonne Doust, Ralph Ryhorchuk, Gerry and May Gallaher and Marcel and Tonia Gagne. She also really enjoyed making holiday treat bags for her special neighbours children: Hank, Natallia, Matteus, Natalia, Kenton, Tanner and Taylor.

Jim, Karen and Kim wish to extend a special thank you to Mom’s daughter in-law Brenda Garvey, granddaughter Chelsea Allen and friends Kelly and Lynda Beauchamp for their loving kindness and generosity to Mom during her time in Kamloops. Also thanks to Dr. Newmarch and the staff and friends at the Hamlets for helping to make her comfortable and happy in her last few months of her life. You all made her feel so loved and took special care of her!

In lieu of flowers, donations to Voice for Hearing Impaired Children, BC Children’s Hospital, the Royal Canadian Legion, the Poppy Fund or the charity of your choice in memory of Marlene would be greatly appreciated.

A Celebration of Marlene’s life and Poppy tribute will be held on Saturday, April 3rd, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 17, lower lounge in Courtenay, B.C.
