Her family and friends are saddened by the loss of Mary Lou.
She passed away peacefully in a care home in Nova Scotia close to her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren.
Mary Lou was born March 25, 1940, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Comox. She graduated from Tsolum High School and attended St. Paul's School of Nursing. She returned to the Comox Valley to start a family and to work at St. Joseph's Hospital. Mary Lou was a dedicated mother and compassionate caring nurse. Her vivacious personality touched many lives and her easy laughter will be greatly missed.
She is predeceased by her parents Eva and Jim Chappell. Left to mourn her passing is her children Darcy (Julie), Debbie (Daryl), and Chad (Sherri). Grandchildren Ally (Jeff) Richard, James and Katie Walker, Addison and Teagan Jackel, Sara and Adam Walker, and great-grandchildren Keigan and Jillyan Richard. She also leaves behind her sister Frances (Bud) York, nieces and nephews, cousins in Alberta and Nova Scotia.
During her later years Mary Lou experienced dementia, the very illness she nursed in Comox. Valiantly and with light humor, she still appreciated every day. The nursing homes where she received exceptional care called her an angel, a lovely lady who they adored.
A celebration of Mary Lou's life will be announced at a later date.
