Merlin Walter (Jack) Moss, Jr.

1932 – 2015

Jack died peacefully, surrounded by family, at his Courtenay home Jan 16, 2015.

A lifelong advocate for social justice and the environment, Jack worked tirelessly to protect and conserve our irreplaceable natural resources. An innovative designer and master craftsman, he built many beautiful custom, energy-efficient homes on Vancouver Island. Nicknamed “Merlin the Wizard,” he was constantly adding new skills to his toolbox and was the go-to resource for his fellow craftsmen, family and friends, who brought Jack their most difficult problems to solve.

But Jack will be remembered best for his generosity. He was always welcoming and helpful to friends and strangers alike. His kind heart and ready smile were the perfect complement to his sharp intellect and wit.

He is survived by his wife Bonnie Bain; sister Carole Forrester; his six children: Mattie Bosch, Jaime Moss, Annie Moss, Michael Moss, John Moss and Brenda Langhans Nakdimen; eight grandchildren: Zoelea Carlson, Thomas Moss, Emma Moss, Trevor Panton, Naomi Bosch, Hannah Panton, Zachary Jorgensen and Miriam Moss; and three great grandchildren: Ryland Carlson-Thauvette, Mya Carlson and Jamison Jorgensen.

According to Jack’s wishes, no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to: Organic Agriculture Protection Fund oapf@saskorganic.com and Engineers Without Borders www.ewb-usa.org
