Mona passed away peacefully on October 2nd with her family at her side.

She was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, the third daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Turnbull. She was predeceased by her parents, sisters Alice Klockow, Helen Woods and Roberta Turnbull; two brothers, Robert and Hugh. She is survived by her sister Eileen, Comox, her sister-in-law, Nora Turnbull and her brothers Bert (Irene), Coquitlam and Neal, Burnaby, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Mona was educated in Regina, Saskatchewan and spent one year teaching in a one-room school in southern Saskatchewan. She boarded on a farm and learned something about farming during the 1930’s depression.

She moved to Vancouver in 1935 and when the family moved to Comox she joined them there. Later that year she went in training at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver, graduating in 1939. She nursed for many years in the old Cumberland General Hospital, the Nanaimo Indian Hospital and when that closed down, she spent the last two years before retirement at Fort Qu’Appelle, Sask. Indian Hospital.

She retired in 1969 and returned to Comox to live with her sister, Eileen. She soon become involved in the Hospital Auxiliary and was a life member. She was a charter member of d’Esterre Senior Center.

She loved her garden and spent many hours there. She also did handcrafts of all kinds.

She and Eileen moved to Stevenson Place in 1997 and she resided there until she had an accident on October 30, 2003. She has been a resident of Extended Care for the last three months.

The family would like to thank the staff of Stevenson Place for their kindness, the nurses and staff at Extended Care for their excellent care during her stay there and Hilda Lavoie and Lee Ellis for their constant visits which meant so much to her.

There will be no service at her request. A memorial tea will be held at Stevenson Place on Saturday, October 9th at 1:00pm.
