Pat King ended her journey on earth peacefully, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 in hospital in Victoria, due to complications from recent surgery.
Pat was born in Wetaskwin, AB to Francis Buckley (d. 9 May 1985) and Viola Bergen (d. 29 April 1949) and had one older brother Harold Buckley, recently deceased 7 October 2018.
Pat proudly served her country through military service, Canadian Air Force, as a nurse (1954-1959) in Canada and overseas. She married first husband Gerald Couvrette in 1957 and had 7 children; Andrew, David, Douglas, Peter, Paul, Linda and Tim. They lived in Nottingham, Portage La Prairie and Ottawa. Pat later remarried Lee King in 1983 and moved to Vancouver Island in 1985.
Pat was devoted to improving the quality of life for her family, friends, colleagues and her community. With unwavering faith, a strong work ethic and endless positivity, she focused her attention on enjoying life's journey every day, with a willingness to help others, and always included space for some fun.
Pat's infectious positivity and endless energy extended internationally. She was generous with spreading her goodwill and considerable talents for organizing and administration. The many community groups in which she participated sent letters of recognition and acknowledgement for her devotion. Pat was directed by her heart, an advocate and voice for those in need and was always willing to share the burden of others. Pat truly fulfilled her vows made long ago and provided strength, service and a model for all to follow.
Pat had the unique ability to see good things in unexpected places and talents in unexpected people. We will all miss her welcoming smile and warm hugs.
Pat is survived by her 6 children; Andrew Couvrette (Kim MacLeod), David Couvrette (Anne), Peter Couvrette, Paul Couvrette, Linda Davis (Roger Davis), Tim King (Deanna Mikel-King), and pre-deceased by son Douglas Buckley-Couvrette (2002), first husband Gerald Couvrette (1998) and second husband Lee King (2008).
Pat will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by her grandchildren; Sean, Brian, Tia, Nathan, Lily, Amber, Cody and Cade; great grandchildren- Landon, Nash, Sydney; nieces and nephews- Ross, Linda, Frank, Tevie and Elizabeth.
