May 22, 1956 - May 10, 2015

Doug died suddenly at his home of complications from a bee sting at the young age of 58. Doug was born and raised in the Comox Valley, the son of Morag and Bob Bowie and the great grandson of Reginald T. Carwithen, one of the original settlers of the Comox Valley. He is survived by his wife, Gayle and his sons, Cris (Nicole), John and MacKenzie. He also leaves his grandchildren, Diceon, Emma Gayle and Terryann. He was predeceased by his sister Jane (Paul) Keoughan in 2013 and will be missed by his brother Ian (Sue) Bowie and his sister Betty (Bill) Lund.

Doug was a talented woodworker who milled his own lumber and built his home and all the outbuildings on his acreage in Merville. He was a hard worker who always made himself available whenever someone needed help. He and Gayle loved to camp with their grandchildren and he knew of many good fishing spots. In his younger years he loved his motorbike and working on farms. He played baseball, was a member of the Courtenay Swim Club and skiied at the Forbidden Plateau and Mt. Washington.

Doug had many relatives and friends who will miss his steady personality and quiet sense of humour. A Celebration of Life will be held at Doug’s home on May 24th at 2:00. Please bring a chair and a bite to eat. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to YANA or the Children’s Hospital.
