Our family is heartbroken to announce that Sandy (Mom) passed away peacefully in hospital at the age of 81 years. Mom had been battling many health issues in her last 20 months. Her courageous battle ended Friday, August 10, 2018 while her three children kept her company at her bedside.

Sandy was predeceased by her father, Charlie and her mother Marge. She is survived by her husband Jim; her children Terry (Maureen), Bob (Denise), and Leigh; six grandchildren Alisa, Brandon, Tyler, Rylan, Cole and Logan; and two great-grandchildren Paige and Dixon.

Sandy was born in Regina, SK and was the daughter of a Canadian Armed Forces member. She met Maurice James (Jim) in Manitoba while working as a clerk at a C.F. military base where Jim was working as a carpenter. Jim and Sandy married August 23, 1958. They raised three children and enjoyed life in several communities while Jim worked as a building inspector for CMHC.

Mom was a very social person with a sense of humour. She enjoyed making friends and loved camping and travelling abroad. During her many years in the Comox Valley, Mom committed herself to working thousands of voluntary hours while enjoying retirement years with Jim. In 1995, while volunteering with Thrifty Foods in Courtenay, Sandy played a large role in establishing the SENDIAL Program in the Comox Valley, a program aimed at assisting seniors and disabled persons. In 2004, Courtenay Thifty's named her "Volunteer of the Year". Sandy came to lead the volunteers of this program over many years among her seventeen with Thrifty's.

Soon after her retirement from Thrifty's, she found herself committing more volunteer hours to Quality Foods in Comox, assisting in establishing a similar program, Q-SHOP (Seniors Helping Other People). This was our Mom and Jim's Sandy. We are very proud of her accomplishments. She will be greatly missed by friends and family but most of all by Jim, who she loved unconditionally to eternity.

Family would like to thank all the excellent health care professionals in the Comox Valley and in Campbell River who cared for Sandy. Additionally, we give thanks to all Mom's kind neighbours who befriended her. Your actions made a difference to Mom and her family.

At Sandy's request, there will be no service. Family asks that any memorials be made to the charity of your choice.
