ABRIC, Sheila (nee Makinson) passed away on December 20, 2018 at the age of 84 years with family at her side at the North Island Hospital in the Comox Valley. Born in Stalmine, Lancashire, England at Moor End Farm on January 26, 1934. Sheila immigrated to Canada in 1958 with her husband Don and two young children; Karl and Kim, first living in Winnipeg where her third child Mark was born. They settled on Vancouver Island to raise their family in Victoria and in their adult years she moved to the Comox Valley with her second husband Gordie McGaw.

Mum's energy, talents and creativity were endless. Her passions were decorating, gardening, dancing and selling her craft creations at the Filberg Festival and other local fairs for many years. A self-taught mason her rock walls adorn many of her past homes. In her youth she ran in county sports competitions and in later years competed in the B.C. Senior Games. She was known for her hard work, friendly smile and engaging conversation.

She is deeply missed and lovingly remembered by husband George, their combined family of Karl (Linnea), Kim and Mark Fawthorpe and Steve, David and Sue Abric, 7 grandchildren; Jared, Emily (Chris), Donald (Lyndsay), Mandy, Stephanie, Cory and Tyler, 4 great-grandchildren; Ruby, Sophie, Ben and Charles, sister Freda (Barry), sister in-law Barbara. Sheila will also be forever remembered by numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Hannah, brother Joseph, sisters Joan and Phyllis, brothers-in-law Andrew and Alan, second husband Gordie and daughter in-law Donna.
