Shirley Elizabeth Hansen (nee Barnett)

January 4, 1938 - October 2, 2019
It is with profound sadness we announce Shirley Elizabeth Hansen (nee Barnett) passed away 2 October 2019.
Mom was born in Ottawa on 4 January 1938. The oldest child of three born to Richard (Captain Retired) and Viola Barnett, Mom was proud of her military heritage and served in the RCAF as a FCOp. There she met the love of her life, a dashing young AC1 named Corky. Married on 20 June 1957, they embarked on a journey that would take them from Parent Quebec to McChord AFB (USA) to Goose Bay Labrador to Comox (twice) and numerous military bases in-between. Along the way they were blessed with three children Barry (Sharon), Lori, and Susan; seven grandchildren, Paul (Karen), Melissa (Jesse), Jason (Lee), David, Trista, Garrett, and Tanner; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous fur babies.

Mom had an unwavering passion for family and friends, knitting and quilting, and of course, she could never pass a nice purse. Mom waged her heroic seven-year battle with Alzheimer's with strength, dignity, and grace and we thank Dr. Potter-Cogan, and the Views staff, most notably Jacki, Cindy, Shannon, Vicki, Deanna and Rose for their loving care of Mom and family.
Please join us in celebrating Mom's life at 11 am on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at Faith Lutheran Church, 1688 McPhee Avenue, Courtenay, BC. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations can be made in Mom's memory to the Canadian Alzheimer's Society or the SPCA.
