November 21, 1933 - December 28, 2020
Passed away comfortably December 28, 2020. Growing up in Germany he was born November 21, 1933 in Russia. He arrived in Chilliwack in the late 1950's, where a family of Mennonite farmers hired Fred in exchange for room & board where he loved attending the horses and other chores on the farm.
Moving later to Courtenay, forty years found him picking "salal" for the flower companies and enjoyed the wilderness.
His love of life included: people; anytime he could find someone to talk to, his "Right Arm" Greg and best friend of 27 years, his common law girlfriend Shari (14 years), Goose Spit, drives to Parksville (boardwalk), Salvation Army Church, ex-roommate Paul & Monique, two daughters Deanna & Caroline, grandchildren Charlotte, Zack, Kendal, adopted grandkids; Lucy, David, Jack, Bowan and Alan. Two sons from first marriage.
Shopping with the "electric scooters" at Walmart and Superstore.
When it came to mental health and addiction - he had more faith and hope in others, than they did for themselves. This man had no judgement and would give the shirt of his back - including his last five dollar bill!
