July 3, 1940 - September 14, 2021
Sylvia joined her dear husband Arthur in the early hours of September 14, 2021. She leaves behind to grieve her three sons Steven, Bruce (Jacqueline) and Glenn (Charlene), her four grandchildren Nicholas (Bobbie), Elizabeth (Curtis), Emily and Matthew (Rachelle), her sister Judith, brother William and sister-in-law Elizabeth and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Sadly, Sylvia was predeceased by her husband Arthur, her brother Nielsen and her brother-in-law Kenneth.
Sylvia was born in Montreal Quebec but soon moved to Nova Scotia where she lived into adulthood. It is with great pride that Sylvia spoke of her short time in the military but she soon chose marriage and motherhood.
As a military spouse Sylvia enjoyed the next 30 plus years travelling to different bases and embracing the life of a military family. Having 3 sons kept her busy as they all learned to fish, camp and generally enjoy the outdoors.
She had many interests over the years as she spent time in various organizations like Eastern Star, the Red Hat Ladies, her church groups, knitting, cross-stitch and more. Gardening was near and dear to her heart and being a snowbird was a great way to spend the winters down south with many close friends.
There are so many log books of all the miles she and Art spent travelling and camping in their various 5th wheel rigs.
Sylvia was devastated to lose Art in 2010 but carried on with her friends and family as best she could. Volunteering with the Cancer Society, becoming more involved with her church and keeping track of her busy grandchildren filled her days.
Sylvia was a dog lover and her last 2 dogs (Joy and Mischa) were great company for her. There was no doubt how very much Sylvia loved her family. She was proud of every accomplishment and loved talking about them all. Her grandchildren brought her so much joy - and she was very excited by the idea of being a Great Nana. Sadly, she passed too soon for this to occur.
Sylvia spent the last 3 years living at The Views where the staff took incredible care of her. She adjusted quickly and it was not long before she was taking art classes, playing bingo and enjoying the Sunday church services. Sylvia learned everyone's name, greeting the staff numerous times during their shifts.
She wanted to be helpful at all times including making sure the other residents always got the help they needed. Everyone who knew Sylvia has a story to tell of how kind and compassionate she was - what a great friend and the positive influence she always was. She never complained about her situation and was always happy to have people come visit.
Sylvia's faith brought her peace every day - she knew where she was going and she knew Art was waiting for her. We know they are together now and we know she is no longer bound to her wheelchair.
Sylvia's family would like to thank Dr. Bell and all the staff at the Views for the incredible care they have given Sylvia - especially during the COVID restrictions. No flowers please - donations to the Comox Valley Health Care Foundation (designated to The Views) would be appreciated. Call 250-331-5957 or donate online at cvhealthcarefoundation.com.
There will be a private service held for Sylvia on September 28th. Due to COVID restrictions those wanting to attend must contact Charlene at charlenerowlandson@gmail.com.
