July 3, 1940 - September 19, 2019
Terry passed away at North Island Hospital, Courtenay on September 19, 2019. She was predeceased by her husband Malcolm Martin Macneil (Oct. 9, 2012), and partner Robert Lennox (May 14, 2019). She is survived by her son Peter (Jody) MacNeil, daughter Cathy (George); grandchildren Jorde and Hunter and great grandchild Malcolm, as well as lifelong friends Joan Grafton, Val Walker, Camilla Thurgood, you exemplified what a true friend is.
Terry was a nurse's aid at St. Joseph's Hospital, and it is there where she met her husband. She was a police matron, managed COPP Shoes in downtown Courtenay, managed Maher Shoes in Courtenay and Campbell River. She loved shows and had a collection to rival Imelda Marcos. She also spent time as a bookkeeper. In Terry's leisure, she enjoyed knitting, most recently knitting toques for the homeless, many blankets for family and friends, needle work, paper tole, crocheting, cake decorating, computer games, puzzles, and genealogy.
Terry was a kind, loving, compassionate person, always willing to lend a helping hand. She would take people in, look after children while parents travelled for work for months at a time, or recuperating from an extended illness, she was a caretaker, always taking care of others. She was a strong willed, fighting to the end. She would say "it is what it is."
Flowers gratefully declined. Please consider a donation in Terry's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
A special thank you to Dr. Tanja Daws for her extraordinary care for the past 10 years. We would also like to thank the wonderful staff at North Island Hospital, Comox Valley for their exemplary care of our mom the past 2 months especially Dr. Neufeld, Dr. Matous, nurses Ryan, Lonnor and Cyd.
A mass of Christian burial took place on Wednesday, September 25, 2019, at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church, Courtenay, with an interment at Courtenay Civic Cemetery.
