January 2, 2003

Belcher Vera (nee Squires)

Passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on January 2nd, 2003 in Comox, B.C.

Predeceased by husband Fred W. Belcher in 1973, brother Ray Squires in June 2002 and sister-in-law Marianne Squires. She will be lovingly remembered by sister Elsie Squires, sister-in-law Elinore Squires (both of Victoria), son Dan (Barb), grandsons Jeff and Brian of Courtenay and several nieces and nephews in Vancouver, Whitehorse, and Ontario.

Born September 22, 1913 in Saskatchewan and raised in Kinley, Mom moved to Victoria in the 1940’s. There she re-met an old friend from Saskatchewan (Fred Belcher) and they were married in August 1952. Mom spent many happy and busy years as a wife and mother in Oak Bay and as an active member of Oak Bay United Church. With her quiet and steadfast manner she showed us the importance of always caring for family and friends. She moved to Courtenay in 2001 to enjoy her remaining years close to her son and family. Thanks to the staff at Glacier View Lodge for their loving care and kindness.

A service of remembrance will be held Friday, January 10th, at 1:00pm in McCall’s Funeral Chapel. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
