July 27, 1932- December 8, 2015
Born in Dryden, Ontario to Angus and Viola McArthur. The family moved to Ocean Falls and then settled in Port Alberni, B.C. Vern met and married Jeanette in 1957.Four children later they moved to Grand Forks, Crofton, and finally to the beach property in Union Bay where Union Bay Auto Body was his passion. Vern loved fixing cars and figuring out ways to solve problems. Vern loved cars, from street racing in Port Alberni to owning many different beautiful machines over the years.
For a hobby, Vern bought a hull and worked on it for 25 years transforming it into a yacht.
It was hard for Vern to retire, but once he did he loved their annual trips to Mexico. They made lots of friends and he kept busy fixing everything and anything. His grandchildren learned from the best. They all learned to drive with grandpa’s “go in the same direction” driving schools and the boys are all in trades they learned from their dad.
Vern leaves to mourn his brother Roy (Carol), his wife Jeanette, children Sheri (Larry), Stanley (Donna), Steven (Barb) and Sheldon (Kim), eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life to follow in the new year. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Comox Valley Hospice Society.
