Walter Boettcher
June 22, 1935 – June 21, 2007
After a short battle with cancer, it is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Walter Boettcher on June 21 with his family by his side.
He was predeceased by his parents Reinhold and Lydia, and his brother Jake.
Walter will be fondly remembered and missed by his wife Jane; sons Ken (Sharon) and Randy (Ellen); daughters Amanda (Cody) and Sarah; and grandchildren Cayla, Erin, Robbie, Jenny, Dani, Scott, Tyler, Jacob and Thyssen. He will also be missed by his brothers Wilbert (Anne), Arthur (Toni), Elmer (Donna), Albert (Bernada); and his sisters Margaret (Sandor), and Irma (Lawrence) and their families.
Walter was born on June 22, 1935 at home, in Hemaruka, Alberta, where he grew up in a rural farming community. Following his move to B.C., Walter worked for the Liquor Control Board and B.C. Hydro Construction division. He continued his love of farming in Merville during the early 70’s while establishing an artificial insemination business, and then settled the family on his small farm in Courtenay, where they have resided for the past 30 years. While still farming, Walter became grounds foreman with School District #71 until he retired in June of 2000. Never one to slow down, after retiring; he started his own company constructing athletic playing fields in the Comox Valley for the School District; including Courtenay Middle, Cape Lazo, Airport, and GP Vanier. Walter continued to do smaller contracts, with Jane at his side, up till days prior to his death.
We would like to thank Dr. Murphy and the emergency room nurses at St. Joseph’s Hospital for the care that Walter received. We would also like to thank Reverend Gordon Carter for his kind words and compassion.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Piercy’s Funeral Home on Wednesday June 27, at 2:00pm. An open house will follow at 3478 Piercy Road. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
God saw you getting tired,
And the cure was not to be
So he wrapped you in his loving arms
And whispered, “Come with me”,
You suffered much in silence
Your spirit did not bend
You faced your pain with courage
Until the very end.
You tried so hard to stay with us
Your fight was all in vain
Good took you in his loving arms
And saved you from all pain.
