March 25, 1921 - August 10, 2012

On Friday, August 10th, 2012

with sadness, tears, love and laughter, we (the family) announce the passing of William (Bill) Lennox. After a long and valliant struggle, he slept peacefully away, with his family at his bedside in the family home.

Bill was born in Toronto, Ontario and was predeceased by parents William and Erma. He will be forever remembered by his High School Sweetheart, Best Friend and wife of 70 years, Joyce, his son, Mark (Rosemary), and daughter Diane (Dan). “Gramps” will be lovingly remembered by his 3 grandchildren Ben, Mac and Sophie, nieces and a nephew, extended family and dear friends in Canada and the USA.

In 1942, he joined the Canadian Armed Forces and served 4 years in the C.M.S.C. in Ottawa, Ontario where he and his new bride lived for the duration. Bill spent much of his long career with Glidden Paint Co. in Toronto as Personnel and Industrial Relations Manager. While with Glidden, Bill enjoyed teaching an evening course at the University of Toronto in Business Administration & Personnel Management for 15 years.

His first and foremost passion was his family, and he loved animals, such as his beloved Irish Setter, Shane.

After retirement, Bill and Joyce moved to Comox, B.C. so they could enjoy time with their children and grandchildren. He loved music and sang with the local Cleffhangers Choir in Courtenay, B.C. He and Joyce travelled widely, with highlights being Great Britain and Europe, many trips to Florida and California and many memorable ocean cruises where they made a multitude of friends. Meeting new people and making new friends was a big part of Bill’s life.

When Bill became bedridden, at which time we were so very fortunate to have V.I.H.A. to enable Bill to remain in his own home with his loving wife. For 3 years, they cared for Bill, 3 times a day, 7 days a week. There are no words to describe these wonderful caregivers... their dedication, kindness and comfort to us. There were so many involved, for so long, they became loved as our ‘extended ‘ family (they know who they are!)

Many thanks to Dr. John Fitzpatrick and more recently, Dr. Adam Thompson.

A private family Celebration of Bill’s life and burial was held at the Mission Hill Cemetery on Tuesday, August 15, 2012.

In lieu of flowers, please send someone a smile today.
