Dear editor,
Tom Fletcher, in his column of Dec 22, states that B.C. “became the first jurisdiction in Canada to establish a four-year schedule for elections.” This is not correct.
During the 20 continuous years when Tommy Douglas was premier of Saskatchewan, the people knew that elections would be held every four years in June, on a Monday. They had been so informed after the first CCF victory in 1944.
When it was decided that the 1964 election would be held in April, people were given several months notice of this change.
