Re: Drivers can't be reading signs (Record, Sept. 5).
While I also applaud the new crosswalk at Robb and Anderton, allowing for greater pedestrian (school children) safety, it has done nothing to alleviate the fact that every morning while workers are travelling one of only three main routes to downtown Comox — and the major one from East Courtenay — there is an endless lineup of parents attempting to turn left across oncoming traffic.
As Tom Beshr points out (Record, Sept. 7) , drivers should leave earlier, find a different route, take the bus, ride a bike, or walk. That also applies to those parents driving their kids to school.
You could solve childhood obesity and traffic congestion in one move if you took your own advice there, Tom. And if it is absolutely necessary to drive your kid to school, then enter Robb from the other direction, as crossing oncoming traffic — especially by this new crosswalk — and holding up a line of commuters, is dangerous.
Perhaps a savvy traffic engineer could plan this route better without a left-turn allowed off Anderton, as Comox 2012 is far different from when these streets were first built.
Of course, that constable who spends her days playing "Gotcha!" from around the corner will have to move on to something less redundant than enforcing a bad design.
