I’m going to give our new PM a chance

Dear editor,

It is amusing to read letters reiterating the same tired, ideological rhetoric used by the Conservative Party of Canada (CPC). How soon they forgot why 68 per cent of Canadians rejected this negative approach including divisive politics, fear mongering and constant bashing of Justin Trudeau during, and in CPC ads, prior to the election.

On Oct. 19, 2015 Canadians handed the Liberal Party of Canada (LBC) a comfortable majority, endorsing their program for real change and providing them a broad mandate with representation in all 10 provinces and three territories. It was a surprising victory under a young, dynamic, charismatic leader. Conservatives underestimated his strength, intelligence and skills.

Prime Minister Trudeau has represented Canada well at numerous international business and political meetings such as G20, APEX, Commonwealth, climate change and world economy, while at the same time opening parliament. The new PM has balanced the federal government with an equal number of qualified male/female cabinet ministers, reflecting the face of Canadians.

He also ran on a deficit stimulus program of investment in Canada and a modified approach in global affairs. It also seems Conservatives are jealous of the young PM’s charisma and good looks.

The new PM is welcoming to the public and vice-versa in Canada and abroad; participating in social media, including selfies. This is in sharp contrast to the aloof manner of the previous PM.

I’m going to give our new prime minister and government the opportunity to demonstrate their capabilities in global affairs and in restoring a strong economy to Canada while at the same time respecting the environment of our planet.
