I live in a residential neighbourhood.
Garbage day is “shopping day” for the people who roam the alleys, looking for things they can turn in for cash. They empty bags, and tip the containers over onto the ground. They leave a huge mess.
This has been a chronic problem for a long time. Our garbage truck driver said that he sees this constantly all along his route.
Now we’re told that city hall will be sending out “ambassadors” to roam the alleys on garbage day, going from home to home to enforce the new rules. They will also be pawing through our garbage, emptying bags and containers onto the ground, looking for contamination. So when we find our garbage strewn all over the ground, we won’t know if it was done by one of the alley people or a city hall “ambassador.” One thing we know for sure. The homeowner will get the blame.
We hope these “ambassadors” will be just as diligent at enforcing the rules in the fancy neighbourhoods as they will be in the middle-class and poorer parts of Courtenay. We are predicting chaos in January. Happy New Year Courtenay!
