LETTER: Cannabis bylaws should be the same as alcohol

Dear editor,

Dear editor,

I see people desperately lighting up their joints at 8:30 in the morning on downtown streets.

Why is it that I am expected to accept without complaint walking through, smelling, and breathing in skunky second-hand smoke from cannabis users who can smoke freely on the street?

As a city resident, if I were walking downtown or in the mall, around my neighbourhood, on the beach, or in a public park, and drinking from a bottle of alcohol, whether I was inebriated to not, the police could be notified and I would be cited and/or fined. Cannabis use in public should be under the same laws and consequences as the use of alcohol.

This is equal fair treatment for both users of intoxicants and considerate to passers-by.

L. Campbell,

Comox
