Dear editor,
On April 3 the City of Courtenay ran an ad in the Record touting the new program they are offering: The Seasonal Yard Waste Drop-off.
This amazing program will be available to all City of Courtenay residents who currently get curbside collection.
Huh?
What do homeowners pay property tax for? Fire and police services, road maintenance, parks, administration, recreation, and cultural facilities and other public services such as garbage/recycling collection. So since the new collection program is not keeping up with the amount of yard waste that spring and summer creates, homeowners must lug their own yard waste to the yard works department. Am I the only one who thinks this creates extra expense to the homeowner? Don’t they pay to have this stuff picked up at the curb? Seems like Courtenay is sub-contracting services to the homeowner that the homeowner has already paid for.
Anyone else think this is pretty backwards?
