On the evening of Sept. 12, more than 1,500 supporters gathered at Pierre Poilievre’s rally in Black Creek. (Olivier Laurin / Comox Valley Record)

Dear editor,

Pierre Poilievre’s speech in Black Creek was unfortunately interrupted by a protester who had to be removed.

That is sad.

However, it is also unfortunate that no questions were allowed at the end.

I respect every politician for having the courage to stand and run for leadership in our country. However, while Mr. Poilievre adamantly showed his dislike for things such as COVID mandates, I felt it unfortunate that while commenting about the importance of reducing violence in the country, his approach continues to make excuses for the takeover of Ottawa for months by protesters, labeling it a case of freedom rather than an illegal takeover and blocking of a free flow of our goods across the border with the U.S.

While there are many reasons to criticize the current government in Canada, one of them is not to ignore the importance of the rule of law, ignored by those who effectively held Ottawa hostage for several weeks.

Steve C. Faraher-Amidon,

Comox
