Groundhog Day is alive and well on Denman Island beaches!
Strong northwest winds last weekend littered a kilometre of Denman beaches with well over 70 stacks of empty oyster trays along with other miscellaneous shellfish equipment.
It is obvious which deep water tenure is responsible for this violation of its shellfish conditions of licence.
Even though this is not their first violation, their application to expand was just recently approved.
Three days later, the stacks are still grinding away in the tideline creating more microplastics to be ingested by everything from the oysters they market to humpback whales.
In the meantime, DFO keeps approving shellfish tenures in Baynes Sound so yes, Groundhog Day is alive and well!
