Overnight noise regrettable, but traffic tieups avoided

Dear editor,

Re: Comox resident losing sleep — and hating it.

Town council was well aware of the concerns that could be raised as a result of nighttime work in the vicinity of this project before they approved an exemption to the noise bylaw.

It is unfortunate that some residents were kept awake during this work, but the fact that this work was required to alleviate what would be an incredible traffic tieup on one of the main thoroughfares between Courtenay and Comox meant that Town council had to balance public interest in traffic flow and safety against the private interest of a good night's sleep.

Now, the work has been substantially completed in a timely manner and another piece of Town's infrastructure has been upgraded before the fall and winter rains could create potholes on this very important stretch of Guthrie Road.

Mayor Paul Ives,
