INVESTORS GROUP ASTROS batter Clint Card lays the lumber on the ball during 10-6 win on Sunday.

A six-run bottom of the fifth inning powered the Investors Group Astros to a 10-6 win over the D&D Construction Cardinals in Komoux Masters Real Baseball League action Sunday at Highland Field.

Clean-up man Daryl Walker went 1-for-3 with three RBI while Rick Poulin went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Scott Easterbrook was the winning pitcher.

The Astros led 9-3 after five innings and the Cards rallied for three runs in the top of the sixth but could get no closer than 9-6.

In other action Sunday, a huge 16-run bottom of the fourth was more than enough for the Happy's Source for Sports Indians as they knocked off the Courtenay Plumbing Twins 19-5 in a 4-1/2 inning affair.

Clean-up man Ron Carter went 3-for-3 with four RBI and Mike Caton was the winning pitcher. The Twins were up 5-3 in the top of the fourth before the Indian bats sprang to life.

There was no score reported from the Dundee Giants vs. Griffin Cubs game and the Fisher Realty Blue Jays vs. Brian McLean Yankees game was postponed.

KMRBL play resumes Sunday at Highland Field with D&D Construction Cardinals vs. Courtenay Plumbing Twins at 9:30 a.m., Fisher Realty Blue Jays vs. Dundee Giants at 12 p.m., Happy's Source for Sports Indians vs. Griffin Cubs at 2:15 p.m. and Investors Group Astros vs. Brian McLean Yankees at 4:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, two teams of KMRBL players attended the annual Sointula Baseball Tournament on the May long weekend. The Ravishing Radishes placed second, losing 7-2 to Hyde Creek Hillbillies in the Monday final.

The Radishes and the Port McNeill Rangers each finished with 3-1 records in round-robin play. The Radishes won the tiebreaker into the final based on their 4-1 win over the Rangers.

The Terrible Turnips were the other Valley entry at the event.
