After a number of strong showings on the B.C. sailing circuit, the Comox Bay Sailing Club is very proud to announce five medal winners at this year’s BC Summer Games, held at White Rock’s Blackie Spit Park.

Theo Truax and Chris Volkers captured gold in the Club 420 fleet with Alex Brown and Oliver Barry taking the silver.  Max Brown earned a bronze in the Optimist fleet and Aiden Collins and Sally Brown both finished fouth in the boys and girls Laser Radial fleet, respectively.  Nigel Fletcher and Sam Gregson rounded out the team in the Optimist Blue Fleet.

Day one of racing offered near storm-like conditions with numerous boats capsizing and somewhat unseasonal weather; the wind reached 35 knots, equivalent to 65 km/h. "Not unlike regular course for our 'North Island' competitors!" a Comox Bay Sailing Club spokesperson noted.

With the sun returning for the second day the over 50 athletes from teams across the province enjoyed the more typical conditions of Crescent Beach.

"The team would like to thank coaches Rob Douglas, Ali Pochereva and Andrew Walther along with the generous support of the club and parents for a wonderful season of racing," the spokesperson said.
