Comox Taxi charity golf tourney adds new sports celebrity, hole in one sponsor

 

The Comox Taxi Team Charity Golf Tournament is just over a month away, and organizers continue to add new personalities and prizes to the inaugural event.

The tourney goes Wednesday, June 29 at Glacier Greens Golf Club, with proceeds benefitting the Comox Military Family Resource Centre and The LINC Youth Centre.

Joining sports celebrities Ty Wishart (Comox Valley minor hockey stalwart now with the New York Islanders) and Cassie Campbell (two-time Olympic gold medallist with Canada's women's team) is Mike McWilliam.

"A member of the Vancouver Canucks Alumni, and former player for the NY Islanders, (McWilliam) has confirmed he will attend our event," said tourney chairperson John Lalonde.

There is also a new hole-in-one sponsor. "Rob Parker of Parker Marine has come on board as a hole-in-one sponsor for hole No. 15. The prize will be a boat package (consisting of a) 14-foot G3 Yamaha aluminum boat, Yamaha motor and trailer package," Lalonde said.

Other hole-in-one prizes include a 2011 Ford Fiesta from Garf Baxandall Ford, a 2011 Can Am ATV from Courtenay Motorsports, a $10,000 Smart Save Account from BMO Bank of Montreal and a business lunch for 40 from Best Western Plus.

Lalonde notes there are still a few spots open for those wishing to play in the tourney. The event is open to all (male, female or mixed teams) with four-person teams or individual entries welcome. For entry forms call Lalonde at 250-890-0304 or e-mail jjlalonde@comoxtaxi.com.

Entry forms can be mailed or delivered (with payment enclosed) to: CT Charity Golf Tournament, c/o John Lalonde - Treasurer, Unit D-1507 McPhee Avenue, Courtenay, B.C., V9N 3A6. Cut-off for mail-in entries is Friday, June 3. For entries beyond this date, contact Lalonde at 250-890-0304.

The $110 entry fee includes meeting the sports celebrities, the round of golf, welcome swag bag, barbecue steak/chicken dinner, free entry into a putting contest, access to a live and silent auction, and top team prizes.

Those interested in being a sponsor or donating to the live/silent auctions are welcome to contact Lalonde. The major sponsors for the tourney are the Comox Valley Record, Jet FM, Quality Foods, Best Western Plus, Boston Pizza and BMO Bank of Montreal.

The fun stars on June 29 with check-in at 11 a/m. and shotgun start at 1:30 p.m.
