The goalies stole the show, the Westshore Wolves got the win, and the Comox Valley Glacier Kings suffered their sixth straight loss.
It all happened Wednesday night at The Q Centre in Victoria when the Wolves nipped the Yetis 3-2 in Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League action. The G-Kings out-shot the Wolves 33-29, but first star Leighton Williams won the goaltending dual over third star Paul Broadbent. Second star Cory Hatcher had a two-point night for Westshore, including the winning goal at 15:02 of the second with his team on the power play.
Grayden McInnes and Grant Iles tallied for the Icemen, who never led in the game. It was 1-1 after one, with the Wolves going ahead early in the second with the man advantage only to have the visitors pull even while Iles lit the lamp with his team on the power play.
Comox Valley went 1-for-8 on the PP while the Wolves were 2-for-7. Tanner Sidaway of Westshore had a busy evening. He scored two goals and at the 7:47 mark of the second he and Ty Madden dropped the gloves.
When the dust settled, both players got five for fighting and a game misconduct, with Sidaway also assessed a second game misconduct, five minutes for kneeing and two minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct. The Wolves were also handed a team penalty for harassment of officials during the melee.
The Glacier Kings return to action Friday, Dec. 4 when they visit the North Division leading Campbell River Storm. On Saturday, Dec. 5 they host the Peninsula Panthers in a 7:30 p.m. start at Comox Valley Sports Centre #1.
