The Comox Valley Glacier Kings picked up an important home win Saturday, as they sent the Lake Cowichan Kraken packing by a score of 7-2.
The expansion Kraken are trailing the third-place Glacier Kings, so the Yetis’ win helped keep some breathing room between themselves and the Kraken.
The scoring started early when the Glacier Kings’ Joe Webber found the back of the net 21 seconds into the game. The visitors tied it up just over a minute later, but the Glacier Kings Aodhan Hildebrandt score shorthanded on the rush to give Comox Valley the lead for good, and Matthew Teasdale added another in the last minute of the period.
In the second, Austin Montgomery-Parsons scored for Comox Valley, while Jory Swanson, Ty Moore and Caileb Berge added goals to expand the lead in the final frame. Tanner Johnson turned aside 21 shots for the win.
Saturday’s victory followed a 8-2 road win for Comox Valley over Nanaimo on Jan. 13. Berge and Tynan Klein-Beekman each scored twice while Teasdale, Hildebrandt, Jeremy Dewar, Trey Anderson also added markers. In net, Andrew Loewen stopped 22 of 24 shots for the win.
Comox Valley hits the road Friday to face Port Alberni before returning home to host Kerry Park on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
