A Courtenay team won a division at the NSA Canada Co-ed World Series Slopitch Championships on the Labour Day weekend in Kamloops.
The tournament included 118 teams from across the country, vying for nine championships. Changlot won the Competitive (C) division, which consisted of 37 teams.
Afer compiling a 3-1 record in round-robin play, Changlot got rolling in the playoffs. In the first game, they mercyed the Finishers 28-12 in five innings. The second game was another mercy finish, this time over the Generals, 23-13 in five innings.
The third game was yet another mercy, 24-14 over the Nasty Dogs in five innings.
Changlot then played the first-place C division team, the Trojans, and mercyed them 17-2 after three innings.
In the semi-finals, the Courtenay side mercyed Carnage 22-6 in four innings.
They again faced the Trojans in the final, winning the championship by a 22-18 score.
“Our team was a rare type of team as it was just a team of family and close friends,” player/coach Larry Normore said. “There was three Chang sisters on the team along with a set of twin brothers. It was a close knit group, and we came together and gelled really well together.”
