The Comox Valley Masters Soccer club is hosting an inaugural home-and-away challenge tournament next month with a team from North Vancouver.
The Salish Cup is set for Saturday, May 11 at Valley View Park in Courtenay.
The tournament will feature two games between Comox Valley age-group teams and their counterparts from Seymour FC.
The idea was hatched at a soccer tournament in Las Vegas, where several Valley players have joined the Seymour team over the last few years.
“It’s a fun event to keep our friendship and partnership with Seymour FC through an ongoing series each year,” event organizer Ron Quilter said.
A 45-plus game is slated for 1 p.m., followed by a 55-plus match at 2:30 p.m.
Both games will include 40-minute halves and unlimited substitutions.
Salish Cup and player-of-the-game presentations will be held immediately after the 55’s game.
Doug Hillian, a local masters soccer player and member of Courtenay council, will officially welcome all four teams at a pre-game ceremony, 12:50 p.m. at centre field.
Return matches will be played in North Vancouver in the fall. Date and location have yet to be determined.
