Cyclists hit podium in Washington State

Training pays off for Comox Valley competitors at popular stage race

Comox Valley cyclists travelled to Enumclaw, Wash. for the Mutual of Enumclaw Stage Race this past weekend (May 19-20). This stage race is one of the biggest cycling events held in Washington State and has attracted a number of Canadian riders from Vancouver Island and the mainland.

Nine local riders competed at the event, including seven juniors. After much training locally, several of the riders managed podium results:

•Isaac van der Vliet (Team Cycle U): 3rd overall, U13 Boys

•Jessica Reynolds (Team Cycle U): 1st overall, U13 Girls

•Mark Grant (Team Cycle U): 2nd overall, U15 Boys

•Jordan Duncan (BC Provincial Team): 2nd overall, Category 3 Men

•Kent Duncan (Comox Valley Cycling Club): 3rd overall, Men's 45+

"The Comox Valley is definitely making a name for itself, with the number of developing junior riders achieving excellent results," a spokesperson noted. "It is thanks to the local community who share the roads with these young riders while they train, that they can continue to develop."
