The universe – or at least the Komoux Masters Real Baseball League portion of it – is unfolding as planned for the Investors Group Astros.
The plan in year one was to not lose every game – success. In year two, last year, the team wanted to win several games – success. And this year, the youngsters want to make it into the top four, the elite of the league – and they are right on track. In the first three games of the year, the Astros have scored 25 runs and thumped the 2009 champions Courtenay Plumbing Twins 14- 3.
In their most recent test, Investors Group took on Happy's Source for Sports Indians. Playing without a full complement of studs, the Astros took it on the chin for the first 3-1/2 innings, falling behind 10-0. But, with the patience and calmness that is part of the plan, the Astros began to chip away and chip away, scoring the next six runs.
However, as with most things worth struggling for, a victory over the Indians would have to wait for another night, for another level of maturity. Happy's scored five more runs in the later innings en route to a 15-8 win.
Jeff Murray and Ronnie Carter each drove in four runs, and Tony Powell illustrated his old-time speed, scoring four times, as the Indian offence was just a bit too much for the new kids. For the Astros, both Rich and Jeff scored three times from the 1-2 lead-off positions.
