Local golfers at Ontario tournament

Yanick, Valliere continue pursuit of excellence on CN Future Links tour

Courtenay golfers Logan Yanick and  Mark Valliere were in Bath, Ont. for the May 25-27 CN Future Links Ontario Championship at the 6,625-yard, par-72 Loyalist Golf and Country Club.

Yanick finished in a two-way tie for 14th at five-over 221. He got the tourney off to a good start on Friday, as he was just one shot off the lead in third place after an opening round 71.

A second-round 74 dropped him into a three-way tie for fourth before carding a final-round 76 on Sunday.

Valliere's opening round 74 had him in a five-way tie for 15th, and a second-round 78 dropped him into a six-way tie for 26th at eight over. He shot an even par 72 on Sunday to finish at eight-over 224 and in a four-way tie for 19th in the 72-player field.

Matt Williams of Calgary posted a tourney-best six-under par round on Sunday (including six birdies and an eagle) to finish first at three-under 213. He shot 75-72 in his first two rounds.

 

Hugo Bernard of Mont.-St Hilare, Que. finished second at one-under 215 (72-74-69). The top six finishers earned exemptions into the 2012 Canadian Junior Boys Championship, which will be contested July 30 to Aug. 3 at Osprey Ridge Golf Club in Bridgewater, N.S.
