THE THIRD ANNUAL Mud Run Ride goes May 12 at McIvor Lake in Campbell River.

Mud Run Ride is gearing up for its third year of mud and fun on May 12 at McIvor Lake. Mud Run Ride is a team of two event involving trail running and mountain biking, mystery challenges and the infamous mud pit at the finish line.

"Mud Run Ride is now locally owned and proud to be a part of the active Island lifestyle so many residents love," an event spokesperson said. Campbell River’s own Simone Lamont and Chris Flood are organizing the event. They bring a wealth of event experience and enthusiasm to Mud Run Ride.

Flood points out that, “This event is not only great fun for our participants, but a great asset to Campbell River residents and other Vancouver Island communities."

"Mud Run Ride entails you and a partner alternating between trail running and beginner mountain biking," the spokesperson explained. "You will switch riding/running at a series of mystery challenges along the course. You do not need to wait for your partner at these challenges, you just have to wait for the bike you share.

"If you ride the first leg of the race, then you complete the second leg of the race on foot, having left the bike for your partner to retrieve ... and you keep switching like this at each of the challenges. The final challenge is at the finish line, which you and your partner must do together before crossing the finish line with a big muddy smile!"

Register before March 31 for early bird price of $99 per team of two. Starting April 1 the price is $109 per team. To register for Mud Run Ride go to mudrunride2012cr.eventbrite.com or check it out on  Facebook at MudRunRide.
