TY WISHART OF the New York Islanders is one of the sports celebrities attending the June 29 Comox Taxi charity golf tournament at Glacier Greens.

Is there still time to enter the inaugural Comox Taxi Team Charity Golf Tournament? You bet your sweet hybrid there is.

Tournament chairperson John Lalonde wants golfers to know there are openings for three four-person teams and two individual spots for the Wednesday, June 29 fundraiser at Glacier Greens Golf Course.

But time is of the essence. "Those interested should call me now at 250-890-0304 to ensure they get a spot," Lalonde stressed.

Participants will be supporting the Comox Military Family Resource Centre and The LINC Youth Centre. They'll have the opportunity to get autographs from sports celebrities Ty Wishart (Comox Valley minor hockey stalwart now with the New York Islanders) and Cassie Campbell (two-time Olympic gold medallist with Canada's women's team) as they will be greeting golfers at the 15th hole.

Hole-in-one prizes include a boat package from Parker Marine, 2011 Ford Fiesta from Garf Baxandall Ford, 2011 Can Am ATV from Courtenay Motorsports, $10,000 Smart Save Account from BMO Bank of Montreal, and a business lunch for 40 from Best Western Plus.

The $110 entry fee includes meeting the sports celebrities, the round of golf, welcome swag bag, barbecue steak/chicken dinner, free entry into a putting contest, access to a live and silent auction, and top team prizes.

The major sponsors for the tourney are the Comox Valley Record, 98.9 Jet FM, Quality Foods, Best Western Plus, Boston Pizza and BMO Bank of Montreal.

The fun gets underway on June 29 with check-in at 11 a.m. and shotgun start at 1:30 p.m.
